The Vacation franchise was nearly revived during the Stephen King revival of the 2010's. A comedic take on "The Shining", a script was written, and casting began. Beverly D'Angelo, all three Audry's and, a semi lucid Randy Quaid. Johnny Galecki was busy with "The Big Bang Theory", the kid from "European Vacation" fell off the face of the earth, so. the decision was made to use a de-aged Anthony Michael Hall as Rusty.

The whole thing quickly fell apart when everyone realized that they would actually be trapped on location for six weeks with Chevy Chase.
